What The Past Year Has Taught Me About Myself & Life

It gets worse before it gets better, and even then there are the up and downs.

What The Past Year Has Taught Me About Myself & Life

Even though throughout your life, you are meant to grow each day. Yes physically, but more importantly, you grow mentally. 2018 has been a year of growing for me with an abundance of changes. I've only lived almost 19 years on this earth, but 2018 hasn't been the most easy year so far. As I've ventured into the "adult" world, I've experienced more than I ever would have originally expected. I learned and I gained. Even though it hasn't been easy, its been probably the most important so far. Because I learned some of the most important things ANYONE should know after hitting adulthood.

1. I am more than a relationship

I am okay by myself, and i'm also okay being with someone else. Being your own person is so important, don't lose parts of yourself to be more like or please someone else.

2. Physical health is important

This year i've been through surgery, and discovered some health problems that I am currently working on, but its truly nothing that can't be fixed as I better myself physically and mentally.

3. College isn't a walk in the park

I never truly thought it was to begin with, but my first semester has been entirely different from all my primary and secondary school year combined.

4. Not everyone that you once had in your life is good for you

I realized this in 2018, not only with friends or romantic relationships, but also with family members that are toxic to me. Realize those toxic people and weave them out; for your own personal growth and wellbeing.

5. Save money

Oh God, I am the absolute worst at this. But definitely get in this habit, I have started and it has been extremely beneficial.

6. I have learned that I am a workaholic

I've had multiple jobs at the same time through this year, and even being in school, I have a few jobs. I learned from this, what I can and can't handle from my work and have adjusted it accordingly. Make time for yourself, even if you are constantly working and doing things for others.

7. A sibling bond is important

I've always been close to my sister, but we have gotten even closer this year. Look out for your siblings and make them a priority.

8. Be by yourself sometimes

ALWAYS make sometime for yourself, its so healthy.

9. Continue to grow

You may think you know all you can know about everything, but as days and weeks go on, you are continuing growing and seeing life in all different ways. 2018 has made me grow, but it's not over yet.

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
