We're All Still Children At Heart And Sometimes

Our DVR can reveal just how young we feel, but there are worse things in the world to like other than cartoons!

We're All Still Children At Heart And Sometimes

As a once avid fan of many nostalgic shows such as "Static Shock" and "Batman: The Animated Series" I used to never change the channel to anything other than Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel. Of course, as is the case for everyone, as I got older my taste in television shows evolved and I became enamored with "X-Men Evolution" and "Ben 10: Alien Force" as well as many other shows.

While the shows were popular I didn't understand why there weren't more people my age talking about them. Plenty of people online were discussing the tragedy of Rogue's mutation and how not being able to touch another human being, skin to skin, could very well lead to extreme clinical depression, but at school I heard more people talking about "Gossip Girl" and "Grey's Anatomy."

Even now I am forced to admit that I have never watched an episode of either show, but if you asked me to name three popular children's cartoons right now that are on my DVR I could immediately say "Steven Universe," "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug" and Cat Noir," and "Star Vs. the Forces of Evil." I look forward to new episodes of all these shows and yet some still look down on not just myself, but others who watch these shows as well.

If I had to take a guess as to when people began to resent adults or adolescents who still watched children's cartoons it would probably be the first time a mother found her little girl googling "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" and found a disturbing image of one or more of the characters in the show.

To this I have to admit the internet is terrifying and that is why parental blocks were invented in the first place, but I don't see how some of the "Bronies*" posting images for 18+ years olds should lead to a detestation of all those who enjoy cartoons. The cartoon series originally created by Alex Hirsch entitled "Gravity Falls" was a hit amongst audiences of many different ages and featured episodes with some pretty graphic material particularly in the episode "Northwest Mansion Noir" (rumored to have been revenge against conservative groups for not allowing the show to feature a homosexual couple in the previous episode entitled "Love God") which featured a room full of taxidermy animals beginning to pour blood from their mouths and chant ominously. This was startling to me and I was seventeen at the time!

"Steven Universe," another popular cartoon right now, has revealed that all of an alien species are female and do not technically reproduce in the manner that mammals on Earth do, but that there are couples in this world. One of the main characters is actually a relationship (cough cough*Garnet*cough*Sapphire and Ruby*fake sneeze cough)!

Cartoons these days have plenty of entertainment for people of all ages. So for those of you out there who love these cartoons as much as I do remember this: you choose what you watch! If you want to watch "Grey's Anatomy" or "Motive or Mistresses" that is entirely your choice, but if you want to watch "Wander Over Yonder" or "Ultimate Spider-Man" or even the newer "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" you can watch that too! You can still watch "Power Rangers" and anything else!

Just because these shows are "made for kids" does not mean you are not allowed to watch and enjoy them and look forward to new episodes coming out. You are an adult which means you can watch whatever you want!

Do not let other people's opinions change your own about something you enjoy! If you want to discuss the ineptitude one must possess not to recognize their crush in and out of costume even though the only thing that changes is their clothes, and eyes for Adrien, I guess, (seriously Adrien there are literally tons of people with blue eyes, but blue hair and pigtails!!! She doesn't even change her hairstyle!!!! Clark Kent had a better disguise!!!!!! And Marinette you're no better!!!!) and your real life buddies don't I have on word for you. This website where you are literally never the weirdest one their because everybody else is competing for the who is weirder award. A website where everyone can talk about anything even if they shouldn't. A website where you can look up anything and I can guarantee at least one other person has the same interest. A website called..... TUMBLR!!!

Note: Tumblr is a blogging website where any blog can be seen unless it has been deactivated. The website will probably take up copious amounts of your time leading to little social life outside of the internet and can become an extreme hobby. Discretion and careful consideration is advised before getting an account.

*Brony: someone, generally an adult male, who is a fan of the show "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic"and, as is the case for many good things, the actions of a few ruined things for the many.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
