We're In Need Of A Revolution

It's dire that we wake up and do it soon.

We're In Need Of A Revolution

I'm not telling you to go out and light things on fire and overthrow the government because violence is never going to fix anything and I'm not a huge fan of anarchy. I am telling you that we need a revolution but probably not in the way you're thinking. We need a change in our minds and our hearts.

We live in a country where one of our two presidential nominees insults women, veterans, and just about every race and religion in our country and people are STILL voting for him.

A little over a year ago gay marriage was finally legal in all of the states and we still have people refusing to sell things to homosexuals and protesting at gay pride parades. We have brothers and sisters that are in dire need of our help in Syria and we're turning them away because we're afraid that it's possible they could be terrorists. We believe this because they happen to come from the same country as the people we're afraid of. Newsflash: the people that you're turning away are dying because of these terrorists too. But they don't have the privilege of hiding in our white picket fenced in houses and ignoring the cries of their neighbors.

We need a change in our hearts and minds because things are changing everywhere else. Gay marriage won't be illegal again just because you're pissed off about it and want to throw a tantrum by hating on other human beings. Terrorists won't stop coming into our country because we don't let refugees into our country. The outcome of that is more good people dying at the hands of terrorists. The only difference is that we could have stopped it.

We've been convinced by a man with a big ego and a political agenda that Mexicans are all immigrants that are here to steal our jobs and our welfare. If only the Native Americans would have had someone to warn them before we got here and slaughtered the majority of them to claim their land as our own and then tried to keep anyone else who may want a better life away from it. A large majority of these people he claims these terrible things about are actually just trying to get jobs and a better life and education for their children. They're working hard for what they have which is more than some can say.

We have got to catch up with the times because they're moving quickly and staying dead set in your old ways isn't going to stop them from changing.

Hating others isn't hurting anyone but yourself.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
