Why I Went Through Sorority Recruitment
@rachelcolassi

When I used to think about sororities, I thought about the stereotypes. All the girls were petty, beautiful snobs who didn't care about anything but themselves. All they did was party and have fun. I thought, how stupid to even join one. Now, being in a sorority, I can say this is not the case.

The number one rule I had was to have an open mind. Sure I heard bad things, but I'd never seen it for myself. So I went out for recruitment, and everything was different. There are so many reasons why joining a sorority changed my life, so here's a few!

1. Recruitment.

The most exciting time ever. You meet so many people in different chapters that you would have never met otherwise. You also meet other girls just as nervous and anxious as you, which helps keep you both calm, cool and collected.

2. You always have something to wear

Your sisters' closets are your closets and vise versa. Everyone is always willing to lend you a cute shirt or a nice pair of shoes.

3. You can always find a library buddy

Whether it's 9 a.m. or 11 p.m. Someone is always available for a library date.

4. You learn what networking is, and use it to your advantage.

Out of all of the girls in your sorority, you learn that someone has a connection you can use to your advantage. You learn to network with everyone by the time you're done with college.

5. People plan the fun for you!

Sororities love planning events. And all the events are always a great time.

6. The memories!!

Enough said.

7. You meet people you might not have met otherwise

Whether it's during recruitment, a library date or even chapter, you meet people you wouldn't have met otherwise. Joining a sorority means gaining a hundred friends you wouldn't have even known without joining.

8. You found your home away from home

Everyone gets homesick at college. The good thing about your sorority sisters is that they're also homesick, and know exactly how to make you feel better.

9. The philanthropies are always awesome.

Helping kids, raising awareness against diseases, earning money for charities, what more could you want?

10. T-Shirts!

SO MANY T-SHIRTS! We love our letters!

11. Instagram on fleek

Whether it's a selfie your sister picked out or a picture of you and your sorority sisters, your Instagram is sorority obsessed. Sorry not sorry!

12. You find your forever friends.

You can guarantee you'll be friends with your sisters forever. Even after college, you'll make time for each other.

13. Your sisters are actually your sisters.

They're not necessarily blood-related, but they might as well be. Your sorority sisters are forever your sisters.

14. You have never ending support.

Your sisters are there through thick and thin. They're there for the tears, the laughs, the anxiety attacks. They'll never leave your side.

It's not about the t-shirts, or the parties, or drinking. It's about finding your place, finding your forever friends, and becoming a part of something bigger than yourself.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
