Wellness is described by Google as "being in a state of good health, especially as an actively achieved goal."

Many people are focused on their goals right now for the new year, and wellness is the result of achieving those goals and feeling good about it. Being well means that you are at peace with your mind, body, and soul. It's actively pursuing goals that make you happy and healthier.

There are plenty of ways to focus on wellness in 2018, and I encourage you to strategically plan a few things out to ensure your success. I'm sharing these tips today to help you understand how you can actively pursue wellness in your own life to make sure you feel your best this year.

1. Think about wellness daily

The most important tip I can offer is this. You have to be aware of your wellness status and what you need in order to improve. Find ways to remind yourself to focus on wellness at the start of your day.

2. Figure out what you need

You can't improve your wellness if you don't know what you need. Maybe your want physical wellness, so you need healthy food and workout time. On the other hand, for mental wellness, you need periods of reflection where you can put your thoughts in order. Whatever you need, figure it out.

3. Plan your day around wellness

Add 10 minutes here and there to make sure you have time for what you need. Wake up earlier so you can relax your mind before the long day. Stay up later to squeeze in a 30-minute workout. Make sure you have the time you need to focus on your wellness.

4. Don't cheat yourself

Achievement of your goals is the highest form of wellness. It's good for your self-confidence and your mental well-being. So don't cheat yourself by skipping a workout or not eating right for two weeks. Stay focused on your goals.

5. Celebrate the victories

When you achieve your goals in relation to wellness, it's time to celebrate. Don't let the accomplishments you've made (small or large) go unnoticed. If you make it to the gym every day for three months like you planned, buy a new pair of running shoes. If you eat healthy for a month, get a new cooking tool or splurge on your favorite healthy snacks. Just don't ruin your hard work with a cheat day. It's a reward day instead.

Hopefully, wellness is on your mind this year. I know it's on mine. By taking the time to focus on doing things that are for you can really make all the difference. It's time to spoil yourself with some love and attention. Take these tips and use them to enhance your wellness journey and start improving your life today.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
