One of hip-hop's underdogs Kid Cudi recently made a plea to the world to forgive him after admitting himself to a rehabilitation center. The once significant artist has seemed to spiral into a state of depression and extrene, inner turmoil. The world was brought to the attention of his current mental state by a post on the social media site, Facebook by Mescudi. It was revealed on September 23, 2016, Scott Mescudi had a restraining order legally administered after sending nearly 200 degrading and insulting text messages to the current mother of his child, Jacqueline Munyasya. This led to a heartfelt, transparent message to fans stating "I am not at peace. I haven't been since you've known me. If I didn't come here, I would've done something to myself. I simply am a damaged human swimming in a pool of emotions everyday of my life. Theres a ragin' violent storm inside "of my heart at all times. Idk what peace feels like." (Facebook, Scott Mescudi).
Cudi was always one of my biggest inspirations growing up because his music appealed to me for the distinctions that it had in comparison to other artists. He was a pioneer in music in distributing his new sound to the public which opened doors for other artists including frequent collaborator and former label mate Kanye West. Much of Cudi's music was indicative of a somber sound. Although it is bittersweet to hear that Cudi is not doing his best mentally it makes me wonder if his lyrics could've been a form of trying to seek out help and assistance. Through Cudi's experience many males, especially of African American descent, are permitted the ability to admit that they aren't doing so great with tending to their mental and emotional needs. Sometimes our society makes it seem as though it is acceptable to feel and embrace your emotions when it comes to the male population. Through this plea for help Scott Mescudi served as a catalyst for the psychology and mental health communities.
