It seems as though every corner of the world has amazing hidden treasures that take your breath away, and I finally found one! But seriously, it's one for the books! Disguised as modern day Cancun, Mexico, the Mayan jungle lies in the shadows concealing its magnificent beauty. While its tantalizing features create a sense of intrigue, the "forbidden forest" line kind of adds to the suspense. Traveling along an excursion into the Mayan jungle happened to become the most unique, memorable, and cultural experience of my life!
Let's start from the beginning...
Rather than take the stereotypical partying trip to Rocky Point, I traveled to Cancun with complete astonishment to find these amazing treasures. Taking a day long excursion, I chose to travel into the Mayan jungle, where we stumbled upon zip lining, underground reservoirs and even people still worshipping the Gods of the Mayan religion.
So, what is this sensational excursion I keep talking about?
The first kick off into this adventure is not for the faint of heart. Zip lining through miles of jungle can be scary because its incredibly fast but your view of the forest slows down the moment! Gliding birds, vibrant flowers and vines tangling around cascading tree branches completely distract your attention from everything else.
Before you can enter into the depths of the jungle, you must be blessed by the Mayans, an ancient tradition of this religion. In the Mayan Jungle, there are many underground caves and reservoirs, which the Mayans believed were entrances into the world of their Gods. Now to protect these entrances, vicious goblins roamed the forest to prevent people that posed as a threat from entering. Therefore to prevent my untimely demise, a Mayan priest performed a ceremony to protect our group from being harmed by the goblins.
What drew my attention? Honestly, the crystal clear water waiting for the tourists and I after the blessing. Hiking miles through the humid, congested jungle left my clothes more wet than dry. When we reached an underground cave that dropped down into a glistening turquoise pool of pure happiness, my heart melted. Instantly diving in, the refreshing water washed over me as my grin beamed from ear to ear. Then I discover if you lay on your back, there is a little crack in the rocks above where the sunlight shimmers along dangling foliage. Clearly an unforgettable experience, you should visit and taste a lit bit of paradise. Appreciating the opportunity, I felt like the experience was completely surreal.
For anyone who appreciates nature, loves adventure or needs a travel fix, visiting the Mayan jungle will not be disappointing.
