New York City. The Big Apple. The City of Dreams.
The City That Never Sleeps. The city of New York is known by its many nicknames. From personal experience, these are my top suggestions of places to go when you visit the Empire City.
1. One World Observatory
Wow. The view from the One World Observatory is one that cannot be described. You travel 102 floors up in a virtual elevator that gives you your exact location throughout your whole journey up. When you get to the top, be warned, you can feel the building sway back and forth.
2. Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is the most iconic monument in New York City. It is a beauty to see in person rather than seeing it in pictures or on TV. The suggestion I would give is, don't waste your time on the island next to Lady Liberty herself. Take the one hour cruise that circles around her for a close enough shot of her.
3. Flatiron Building
This is personally my favorite building in the city. I love the architecture of the building itself with twenty-two stories. It may seem familiar to many as it was a main focal point in the Spiderman movies starring Toby McGuire. It is located in downtown Manhattan with prime shopping and tourist locations.
4. The Chrysler Building
This building is truly a stunner. I find it one of the prettiest buildings in the city, especially at nighttime. The best view of this and the rest of the city is from either One World Observatory or Top of the Rock at NBC studios.
5. The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon
This is by far the most amazing experience I have had in the four times I have visited the Big Apple. This comedy show has an array of famous guest stars. During my visit the guests were Liam Payne, Ashton Kutcher, and Vanessa Hudgens. You can obtain tickets for the show by the Twitter page by getting your spot on the wait list. The taping of the tonight show takes up a majority of your day so take this into consideration before making other plans.
6. Yankee Stadium
The New York Yankees are truly a historic team in sports history. Located in the Bronx subdivision of the City, Yankee Stadium is a thrill to experience. I was lucky enough to see rookie sensation Aaron Judge score a home run in the 2017 MLB season at the famous stadium. Even if baseball is not your sport, I encourage you to participate in this once in a lifetime experience.
7. Macy's
Macy's Herald Square is the perfect destination to shop until you drop. With ten floors of merchandise, you could spend hours browsing for your perfect, unique style. They even have a floor dedicated to shoes priced up to twenty-five hundred dollars.
8. The Subway System
Some people might find the subway system in New York City dirty and sketchy. This might be true, but this is truly the fastest and cheapest way to travel in the city. When taking this form of transportation one should have a map with all the different types of subway cars and destinations. If you are staying in the city for a moderate amount of time a Metro Card might be the best investment you could spend on your trip.
