Why I Welcome Failure

Last night I took an L but tonight I bounce back.

Why I Welcome Failure
Nathan

Why is it that I welcome failure? I welcome failure because it means that I am making attempts towards whatever I am striving to achieve.

Now I'm not saying that I've never wished to achieve something without failure-- I'm sure it would be nice to know you can accomplish anything without failing.

What I'm trying to get at is, we should not let the fear of failure prevent us from setting out to achieve whatever it is we wish to achieve.

I mean, what is there to fear about failure? Failure doesn't exactly burden us with anything other than not being able to immediately bear the fruit of an accomplishment and the emotional responses that may accompany the act of failing. It's not like our failure automatically prevents us from achieving our goals. If anything, our success is only delayed. To be blunt, it's not the end of the world if and when we fail.

We need to strip away the negative connotation that we often associate with failure. Moments of failure can actually be positive as they provide us with teaching moments where we learn what our strengths and weaknesses are. It is then that we gain a better understanding of what it is that we need to work on or do differently to ensure success on our next attempt. Resiliency is what it comes down to in cases such as these. Are you going to give up under the pressure or are you going to bounce back even stronger?

And so what if, in certain instances, we end up failing more than 3 or 4 times? The amount of times we fail doesn't matter as long as we allow ourselves to learn and grow from each attempt and take corrective action. Keep in mind, a lot of the people we look up to and admire, whether it be family and friends or famous people, experienced their own string of failures before achieving success. J.K Rowling, the author and creator of "Harry Potter", the series many of us adore and admire, failed many times before "Harry Potter" actually became what it is today. The manuscript for "Harry Potter" was turned down 12 or so times by publishers before it actually became published. What if Rowling decided to give up after the second or third rejection by publishers? Or even after the first rejection?

We might not always be able to accomplish things without first failing but as long as we try our best, learn from our failures and keep trying, in addition to welcoming and accepting failure as part of the process towards achieving success, then we can accomplish and achieve anything we set out to do.

Welcome failure and success will welcome you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
