It's no secret that Grayson Allen is the most hated college basketball player ever right now. After three tripping incidents and only being suspended for one game, Grayson Allen's target on his back just grew three times it's size.
As a Duke fan, I'm not standing by his side because I'm biased or anything, I'm taking his side because he's still a kid.
Grayson Allen is one year older than me, making him 20/21. While that's not technically a "kid's age," he's still young enough where he's not supposed to deal with the nonsense he's taking. Granted, he did trip people - 3 times, I know - but why does everyone want to be so cruel about it?
Did he do something wrong? Yes.
Did he deserve the suspension? Yes.
Did he receive appropriate punishment? YES!
Grayson Allen served his punishment of an indefinite suspension. Indefinite: lasting for an unknown or unstated amount of time.
Yes, I know that his indefinite suspension only lasted for one game, but does the length of the suspension really matter? In all honesty, Grayson Allen could of been suspended for two weeks to a month and people still wouldn't be happy. That only thing that matters from his suspension is if he learned from his mistake - only time will tell if this is the case.
We have to remember that Grayson is just a college kid. He's still learning and growing everyday. I'm not a college athlete, but I am a college student. I know the struggle of being so unreasonably stressed from school work that you want to have a mental breakdown everyday of the week. I can't imagine being a college athlete - for Duke University - and having to tackle being a star basketball player, your grades, and social life. That's a lot to handle. Imagine having to tackle all that and deal with the constant slandering and threats he gets, especially at his age. That's a lot for a person to handle.
Which is why I'm glad he came back.
Grayson Allen started this past Wednesday against Georgia Tech. Duke won with the score 110-57. Grayson Allen finished the game with 15 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds.
Even though it was just for one game, I'm glad he's back - and so is everyone else that supports him.
