I heard something the other day that I just can not quite wrap my head around.
We killed Jesus, and He came back loving us.
We KILLED Him, yet He came back loving us with a love that we can not even comprehend. He forgave us before we even had a chance to apologize.
Think about this: If I walked up to you today, took the cup of coffee out of your hand, and dumped it on your head, you would be furious with me. Wouldn't you be? If I came to your house in the middle of the night, slashed your car tires, and smashed your windshield, you would probably never talk to me again. Right? I can almost guarantee that you would not just simply forgive me, especially if I didn't even apologize.
We killed Him, we didn't apologize, and He forgave us!
We didn't dump out Jesus's coffee, and we didn't slash His tires. We killed Him, and in the most brutal, humiliating way that we possibly could. We made Him carry a wooden cross, while we called Him names and spat at Him. We shoved thorns into His head. We drove nails through His hands and feet. We left Him to hang on the cross and die. He was trying to save us, heal us, and love us, and we killed Him like He was a criminal.
And what did Jesus say, while hanging on the cross bearing the immense physical pain, as well as the weight of all of our sins?
"Jesus said, “Forgive them, Father! They don't know what they are doing."
-Luke 23:34
He came back loving us. We can not even understand this degree of love if we try. Jesus died for you, and He loves you. How can we not spend every waking second we have glorifying Him, trying our hardest to love Him with everything we have in us?
"Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." -Matthew 22:37
