College is an undoubtedly distinct educational opportunity. It presses more responsibility, freedom and ideas onto each student, allowing them to think about where they'd like to be in the world. Going to college can be a beautiful growing experience for students. Sometimes though, it's just plain weird. Below are just a few examples of the weird and wacky happenings of a college campus.
1. So many people dress exactly the same.
Each campus has its own standard form of dress, but many find the following outfits to be most widespread. About half of college girls seem to follow some unspoken (and admittedly comfortable) dress code consisting of an oversized pull-over sweater, athletic leggings and either Ugg boots or neon-colored sneakers. Many male students adopt the typical “frat boy” costume: khaki shorts, a pastel colored polo and loafers. Is there a reason we tend to dress the same? Not really. But we sure look cute and cozy doing so.
2. You're always seeing fresh faces.
The average college campus hosts thousands of students each semester -- a drastic change from your standard high school. The absence of familiar faces in every hallway can make your school seem large and lonely but there are benefits to this. A constantly changing audience makes it so much easier to forget about the minor yet often embarrassing trips and spills we have on the daily.
3. You're never quite sure of who’s in your class.
Since we have the saccharine luxury of being able to skip lectures on days when the urge to sleep in until 3 p.m. strikes, we underestimate the true size of our class. Every day of your biology seminar greets you with a new face to replace the guy who was here last week but is currently sleeping off the effects of the weekend. Come finals day you’ll see that your lecture hall has to accommodate twice the amount of students it's used to. Crazy stuff.
4. No one cares about the weird things you do.
Whether you want to wear high heels or Heelys to class, sleep in the library or wear the same sweater for days at a time, it’s unlikely you’ll find a fellow student opposing you. College goers tend to be so aware of the fact that everyone else is also suffering with stress and heavy workloads that quirky actions and unconventional habits become unimportant.
