I have been studying abroad in London for six weeks now. The days have been long and packed with adventures. I have done things in England and within the British Isles. Here are the highlights of the past four weeks:
1. Went to Stonehenge
Let me start by saying that I never thought that Stonehenge was in Salisbury, England. I always thought it was in Scotland. The experience was phenomenal. There were sheep and ravens everywhere. I never thought I would be able to see this ancient stone circle, but I did and it was beautiful.
2. Went to the Tower of London
There really were a lot of executions here. I even got to see where Anne Boleyn was executed.
3. Saw the Magna Carta
The one in Salisburey Cathedral is the one I saw. It is in a dark curtained room to keep it from being damaged by harsh lighting. Because of its fragility we were unable to take any pictures.
4. Went to Oxfordshire and Saw some Harry Potter Locations
The places we visited include where Draco was turned in to a ferret in the Goblet of Fire, the stairs where McGonagall meets first year Harry, Ron and Draco, and the Great Hall.
5. Went to Edinburgh, Scotland
This is such a beautiful city with a rich history.
6. Went to Dublin, Ireland
I got to pour myself a perfect pint of Guinness. I feel pretty accomplished. There's even a certificate for it.
7. I Kissed the Blarney Stone in Cork, Ireland
Blarney Castle is beautiful. The grounds are surronded by rolling hills and streams. I am just not the biggest fan of heights. I'm just happy they don't dangle you over the side anymore.
8. Went to the Dicken's House
There were a lot of stairs so I did not take pictures. And just so you know, Charles Dickens was kind of a jerk. He left his wife for a younger woman after she had his ten children.
9. Saw Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House
The costumes were beautiful. I was not sure how I would feel about seeing the ballet but I enjoyed it.
10. Visited the London Wall
Not many people realize that England was once part of the Roman Empire. I know that I didn't. When walking through the city you can still see bits of this Roman history, like the London Wall. It was buil by the Romans and surrounded the city at one point. Now there are modern buildings and high rises popping up where there is no more wall.
11. Watched Much Ado About Nothing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket
I love Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Seeing the performace live was astounding and the Royal Shakespeare company is filled with talented actors.
