My Weekly Favorites: 'The Bone Season'

I always love finding new favorite things or obsessions. Whether it's a new restaurant, movie, book, or something else, I just have to tell people about it once I've experienced it. I want my friends and family to find the same joy in something as I did, or if they don't like something, then we can talk about it and bring up the pros and cons. So, I wanted to start a weekly article where I talk about something I discovered over the course of each week that I found inspiring, fascinating, amazing, etc. I got the idea from Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, who make Youtube videos under the name Superfruit. Each week at the end of their video they have a segment for their Weekly Obsessions. That's always been my favorite part of their videos, and I wanted to share some of the things I like with readers as well. So I hope you are intrigued by some of my weekly finds and I hope this inspires you to explore and experience new things!

My pick for this week's favorite is a book called, "The Bone Season." I'm sure my friends are completely annoyed with me by now because this book is all I can talk about! I've been a major bookworm for as long as I can remember, and I always love receiving recommendations for stories from friends and family. But now I want to return the favor to you readers as well!

"The Bone Season" is written by Samantha Shannon and it takes place in a futuristic London, England. It's a London that is completely different from the one we know of today. Society is basically divided between those who are "normal" and those who are clairvoyant, or who can communicate with spirits. These people have been hunted down by the government for decades, and over that time, clairvoyant people created a secret underground society in order to survive. I would love to go into more detail about the plot, but I'm not one to give away anything spoilers.

If you read "The Hunger Games" or "The Divergent" series, or are at all interested in alternate societies, supernatural elements, or science fiction, this book is definitely for you. One thing I really like about it is that it isn't really a "teen fiction' book, like the other ones I named above are. There's a maturity to it, and the author created a completely new world in this story. There are so many terms she created that there's a glossary in the back of the book! Plus, the author is making it a seven-book series, and the second book is already published!

So, if you or someone you know is looking for a new book to geek out about or just enjoy, I highly recommend this one. It's definitely my weekly favorite!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.

You practically spend every moment with them, they become your second family and they deal with you at your best and at your absolute worst. We often forget to thank them for the little things that they do to make college even a tiny bit easier and more fun.
