How To Make The Most Of Weekends In Oneonta

You made it through another week of being a college student, time to reward yourself with a day of exploring the beautiful city of Oneonta. Do not stay in your dorm all day watching Netflix, you will regret it. All you need is a few friends and you’re ready to have a great weekend exploring all of these places.

1. Go shopping at the Southside Mall.

Southside is where to go for a day of shopping. There’s a really big Walmart that has groceries along with everything else you could ever need. There’s a small but nice mall with Bath and Body Works, JC Penney, and TJ Maxx. For when you get hungry after a few hours of shopping, you’ll probably have a hard time choosing which place to eat at. Applebee’s, Panera, SweetFrog, and Moe’s are within walking distance from each other.

2. Visit College Camp.

When you and your friends are in the mood for an adventure, College Camp is the place for you. A trail begins at Hunt Union and has a number of paths that leads all the way to College Camp. Once you’re there, you can pick from a number of activities and enjoy the view while being surrounded by nature. Upstate New York is a really beautiful place and the trails to College Camp are a great way to appreciate it.

3. Spend some time Downtown.

By far my favorite thing to do in my free time is going into town with some friends and walk around in downtown Oneonta. A five minute bus ride will get you to Main Street, where there’s so many shops and restaurants to stop in to. There’s a lot of coffee shops, pizza places, and other restaurants to eat here. The Yellow Deli is a really popular restaurant and my personal favorite!

With all of these great places to see in Oneonta, you’ll be wishing it was Saturday every day. Get off of campus and take advantage of the great spots in this town before Monday rolls around again. Whether it’s at the Southside Mall, Downtown, College Camp or somewhere else, you can easily find a way to have a fun weekend in Oneonta.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
