In some point of our lives, we might come across a retreat, whether it may be for the freshman year of high school or senior year. My very first retreat was in my freshman year of college.
I signed up not knowing what to expect. I've heard about retreats before, but I've never experienced one.
We departed St. Edward's early Friday afternoon. The drive to Camp Buckner was just an hour away. The getaway from the hustle and bustle of Austin to a serene and tranquil nature view was what I needed for the weekend.
I was immersed with a crowd of strangers all beaming with smiles. Everyone was excited for what was to come.
I came to the retreat with my group of friends so settling into a new environment was going to be easier. I didn't realize I would make more friends than I came with.
The reflections, the bonfire, the singing. It was the perfect getaway from the responsibilities I left at St. Edward's. I was able to get to know more about myself.
Looking back, I was so glad to have spent a weekend at the freshman retreat. My experience was an eye opener and something I will never forget.
