It's Saturday afternoon and you are bored out of your mind, desperately clawing for any sense of adventure or activity that will bring you out of the dark pit known as boredom. There's one problem though: You don't have a money tree and can't afford to just go to the mall for a shopping spree or go see a 30 dollar movie. There is hope, though. I found six things to do over the weekend when you're broke that aren't just fun, but are also beneficial, unlike binge-watching "Game Of Thrones" all weekend.
1. Find free local events.
Whichever city you live in or a close by city there is always some sort of volunteer event or a free day at a water park and even a zoo. Literally just go to your city's web page and you can find tons of events that are going on, and most of those events are free unless you want to buy a hot dog or something. And if the local zoo isn't for you, try volunteering. Volunteering is greatly appreciated and it's a great way to give back to your community without spending a dime.
2. Write something.
I'm not talking about a novel here. Just write about something that interests you. You would be surprised at how fast the time goes when you really get into whatever it is you are writing. Try poetry. Writing offers a great release of stress and an amazing outlet for emotion that no one has to read except you if that's what you wish. Start with a single sentence and see where you go from there.
3. Invite friends over.
No matter how bored you are, being bored with some company is 100 times more fun than sitting alone. If a group of your friends isn't enough to have fun then you should look into getting new friends.
4. Learn something new.
You're not going to study when you are having fun, so why not study when you are bored? You'll do better in your classes and might even get assignments done early. When class is over, you could always learn other subjects. Learn how to fix your car if you have one or learn how to cook something new. Having a wealth of knowledge is not only cool, but it also sets you apart for future employers, friends, and love interests.
5. Make some art.
Like writing, art is a great therapeutic activity to clear your mind. The best part about art is that it can be made from literally anything. Go outside and put sticks together to make a cool sculpture or find some old pens and markers to draw a really cool portrait of yourself. Art can be many shapes and sizes - just find something artistic and spend the afternoon creating something amazing that can possibly double as a gift for next Mother's Day or something.
6. Explore your town.
Never forget to wander and explore. Dust off the bike and go take a ride around the neighborhood. It's not only good exercise for your body, but it also keeps the wallet stable. If there is a cool wooded area you always tell yourself you want to explore but never did, go do it. Seize the day and go on a cool adventure in your backyard. Who knows what awaits you?
