I went to Wisconsin this weekend for a wedding. The weather was pretty good for the middle of November in the Midwest. There were some snow flurries and I actually had some fun raking leaves, but that's for another post.

This post is about one of my favorite places to eat in the city of Manitowoc, where I stayed for most of my weekend trip.

Late's Diner is on 9th Street, right next to Cedar Crest ice cream with a big cow out front. Whenever I go to Wisconsin, I try to get to Late's because the food is good and because it's too close to my grandparents' house to not go. It's pretty typical diner fare, nothing too unusual for Wisconsin.

My dad likes the fish fry. Fish fry is a Midwestern staple that my dad replicates with a Southwestern flair by taking the family out sometimes for fish tacos. But the craving started in Manitowoc, and Late's probably had a heavy hand in the process.

The reason I am writing about Late's is because I like the food and because I think Late's would fit right in as a campus staple.

1. It's cheap.

The service moves pretty quick, and the environment is lively enough for some fun and sometimes quiet enough to make an excuse to study in one of the booths.

2. Snacks

There are snacks behind the counter for dirt cheap, and I have not known a college student to pass on candy. They also serve great desserts, like cheesecake. And dairy in Wisconsin means happiness.

3. The main course

I am a burger aficionado myself, and those are always good at Late's. But on Friday night when we went for dinner, I was in the mood for some classic fish fry. And Late's never disappoints on that front.

I got coleslaw and fries with my fried cod, which just completed the meal.

I never have a bad time going to Late's. And this time was no different. Now if only they delivered to Tempe...

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
