Last week, I found myself cleaning around the house, walking my dog, and spending more time with my family. My goal is to see how well I can substitute social media with daily activities.
Here is a continued version of last week's article.
Day 4: Monday (August 15, 2016)
Today was pretty stressful. I'm hopeful that I will pass my driving test, but if i don't then I have to wait till I get back from college to retake it. I went to my sister in laws house because she was going to be the one taking me and helping me practice an hour before my actual test. by the time 3:00 PM came around, I was so confident. I had all my hand signals down and I was reminding myself to look over my shoulder etc. Unfortunately, I didn't pass. I was so embarrassed because I told all of my friends and family about it. At 6:30 pm, my mom took me to get supplies for my dorm. I'm moving in early this year because I volunteered to help give a warm welcoming to the incoming freshman.
Day 5: Tuesday (August 16, 2016)
I packed all day today, and even filmed a video for my Youtube channel. I finished around 5:00 PM. I decided to try and do yoga to ease my mind from stress. I was stressing over moving in and making sure my classes were going to be covered. My mom bought a red box so we watched a weird indie movie, but i don't remember the name. I think it was called "Vanish" or something similar. I stayed up until 2:00 AM tossing and turning because i was so excited to move in with my friends.
Day 6: Wednesday (August 17, 2016)
This has been the saddest day so far. Not only did I re-download Instagram, but I uploaded and scrolled through my timeline. The day was almost over too! I had just finished settling in with my friends in the dorm when I was looking through my camera roll and saw the cutest picture. I was planning on uploading it once I was done with this experiment, but I never got around to it. The 120 hours without social media was surprisingly challenging, but I got through it and will continue to do so more often.
Overall, I felt like this experiment doesn't seem like a big deal, but once I stopped using social media, I felt like I needed to go back on because I got bored quickly. In reality, social media is boring. I get bored of it, but I'm constantly using it looking for something interesting. I think that there is so much more to do in a day, like maybe be productive with homework or explore the outdoors. I recommend this kind of experiment to anyone because it's a real eye opener.
