The Week Before Spring Break For A College Student

The week before break creates many mixed emotions. It can be difficult, but you will make it through.

For students everywhere, Spring Break is arguably the most anticipated break of the school year. You made it through the first half of the year, and you need this time to get away from school before the end of the year slump. But before you can get to your break, you have to get through that last week of school. This week is full of emotions that you are bound to feel at one point or another leading up to your week of freedom.

1. Starting with a go-get-em attitude.

This is your last week before break! You're going to put your best out there and get it done so you can end on a high note and have nothing to worry about during your time off. Bring it on!

2. Losing your go-get-em attitude.

No matter how hard you try, school is still school. After the first 15 minutes or so, you realize that this week is the same as the last and it will be a constant struggle to get through the next four days.

3. Seeing posts from people who are already on break.

All you want is to be at a resort in a tropical destination, is that too much to ask? You lothe the people that are already on break, and what is even worse is the people that skipped school to go on break early. Why do you get to go and leave me here by myself?

3. (Not so) silently cursing your professors that chose to save a test or project for Friday before break.

We all have these teachers. There may not be any tests or projects for weeks, but you better believe they will have a test the Friday before break. Oh, and here's a project to keep you busy this week, too!

4. Realizing you still have a project to do at midnight the night before.

You may still be at school, but your brain is already on vacation. Even if you think you have finished all of your work, there is a good chance that there is something that you are missing.

5. Somehow class is even more boring than usual and you struggle to stay awake.

Was this class always this boring? It's hard to enjoy classes, but the week before break it seems as though your teachers have purposely chosen the most sleep-worthy material possible.

6. Realizing you're a broke college student and won't be going to a tropical paradise.

Sooner or later you have to face the fact that, no, you won't be spending spring break in Cancun, Punta Cana, or any vacation spot. You will be spending it at home, with your *gasp* family.

7. Getting out of your last class on the last day.

Nothing beats the moment that you get to turn in your last assignment and walk out of the building, knowing you won't have to be back for over a week. This is one of those moments where you want to pump your fist in victory as you leave.

8. When you realize you don't have to go somewhere far away to have a good break.

So you don't get to go away for spring break? It's still a break, so spend it how you want! Whether it's catching up on some much-needed sleep or having a date with Netflix, you don't have anywhere to be, so why not? Let's be honest; a week sleeping in your own bed, no assignments and free home-cooked meals? That sounds pretty good to me.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
