The reviews are in, and it looks like Mother Nature has done it again! After giving us a mild break from winter for some time, she is back. The critics, including myself, have yet to determine whether this is a good thing. After her sunny premiere a mere couple of weeks ago, MoNa, her secret pen name, has taken a bitter cold turn.
The entire theatrical presentation is directed in such a way, you would think that it is meant as an insult toward someone. Never have I ever been around for a snowfall in April. I’m pretty sure that Christmas was warmer than Easter. Ask one of your friends in the GOP. I know they have entertaining answers.
Anyways, getting back to MoNa’s newest comedy. Looking back at it now, it definitely seems that she cannot decide who she wants to be. Or she just does not want to be placed in a box and live up to people’s expectations. I think Mother Nature wants to blow people’s expectations away. I understand that March can be a confusing time for all of us. But honestly, sometimes I just want to be able to walk out of my dorm and not be thrown a gust of wind that makes me think I’m on the North Pole expedition with Robert Edwin Peary.
From recent theatrics, I got the impression that MoNa was clearly very angry. So I decided to do some digging and find out why such a beautiful, interesting force would be so disgustingly dreary.
And as it turns out, she’s been slowly stewing for quite some time.
According to an international study, the global sea level rose about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in the last century. The rate in the last decade, however, is nearly double that of the last century.
Maybe she’s mad because this world has gradually gotten hotter? Maybe? Ha. We wish this was a maybe answer, because our world has definitely become warmer. By a lot.
With ocean waters increasingly becoming hotter, ecosystems cannot keep up with the fast-paced change. One of the greatest modern wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef, has undergone a mass coral bleaching. If the bleaching is bad enough, or the temperatures remain high for long enough, the corals die, putting the future of reefs at risk.
Snow caps have consistently decreased in size as well. Satellite observations reveal that the amount of spring snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere has decreased over the past five decades and that the snow is melting earlier.
You’re now asking yourself, "How the heck did this happen?" Well, take a look in the mirror pal.
I’m not going to lecture on how horrible we are at taking care of the one planet we have because quite frankly, it has been done too many times and I know you still won’t listen. But what I will address is your silly, irrelevant, dense and simpleminded questions about the weather.
You keep on asking, “Why is this weather so crazy?” or, “How can it possibly snowing in April?” or “When will it stop being so cold? I need spring.”
Newsflash: you already know the answers, so stop asking the questions and maybe do something about it.
