This collection of photos takes me back to my grandparents' home in West Branch, Michigan. Being a quite rural town, it often echoes a feeling of isolation, especially in the winter months. As they are constantly dumped with several inches of snow, one simply doesn't go outside. Even my fearless grandmother dares not to drive on the snowy, icy roads; a decision many inhabitants of West Branch make. As a result, the roads are empty and the falling snow mutes any sound. I was trying to capture that sense of hollowness that West Branch has in the winter. As the outside world bears subzero temperatures, it greatly contrasts with the warm, nostalgic feeling of my grandparents' home. I long to visit them always, but even more so at this time of year. The empty roads, the simple beauty of the landscape, and my loving grandparents have a restorative quality like no other.
