Wear What You Want To Class

College is hard enough.

Wear What You Want To Class

When I get ready for class in the morning, I'm usually thinking about what notebooks I need to bring with, where I left my laptop charger, and if my homework is stapled and tucked away. For me, picking out what to wear is something that isn't super important. I usually put on a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, and I'm ready to go.

Recently, I've seen a lot of articles such as this one, telling people how they should dress for class. While I think that it is important not to be a distraction in class, I think that people should wear what they want. You're in college to learn, so it doesn't matter if you have on a cute dress or a t-shirt and leggings. I would much rather feel comfortable in my hoodie while attending lecture than being uncomfortable trying to dress up, and not being able to focus as a result.

As for your professors, they probably can't even remember what you wear to class, let alone have time to judge you for it. They have busy lives, and your work ethic and personality will have more of an impact on what their opinion is of you than whether you wore a suit or a t-shirt to an ordinary lecture. At my college, some of the lectures can have a hundred students, so in reality, the professor won't even know who you are unless you go to office hours.

Where I live, the winters are brutal, and for most of the winter, I like to wear sweatshirts. They're warmer than most sweaters, and I'd much rather be warm on my fifteen-minute walk to class in 10-degree weather than try to dress nicely and freeze.

Just last week when I had a final exam, I put on my favorite sweatshirt and some leggings. Did this make me any less successful than anyone else in my class? No, of course not. I was able to concentrate on my exam better and was able to get more sleep beforehand because I didn't spend much time getting ready in the morning.

While you should be able to wear a t-shirt and jeans most of the time, there are specific instances where dressing up is essential. For individual projects or majors, it might be necessary to wear a suit. However, that doesn't mean you have to dress like this every day. College is stressful enough as it is. Why make it harder than it already is by dressing up more than you want to?

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
