Makeup has become a very controversial thing in society today. Whether one is wearing full glam makeup, or they are bare-faced, each person has their own opinion. So is it okay to wear lots of makeup? Does that make me "fake" or bad?
I wear makeup just about every day and I want to do it on others for a living one day. To me and many other makeup artists, it's not about hiding or covering up the face, but we see it as an art. I see the face as a canvas and cosmetics are my paints. I feel that I am beautiful with and without makeup, but putting on lipstick and winging out some eyeliner gives me a huge confidence boost because it's something different and artistic.
Alicia Keys has started a "no makeup movement' and I feel that more people should respect her for that. She said, "I don't want to cover up anymore." The movie and theater industry where I want to work basically has a requirement for covering up all "imperfections." If you love your face the way it is without makeup and you don't want to wear any, then don't! But no person should down someone else because of their personal beauty choices. Does a naturally curly haired woman down one who straightens them out because they are different? No. Exactly. So what is the difference between changing the appearance of your hair and changing the appearance of your face? Answer: There isn't one.
I had a personal experience on Facebook concerning this about a week ago. I am a member of a few beauty pages on Facebook and I posted a picture of my daily makeup one day because I was very proud of the artistry and precision. It was mostly praised in the comments, but a few people attempted to tell me how I was covering up and giving "false advertisement." FIRST OF ALL...I am not a product, I am a woman, therefore I am not to be advertised anyways. I was very nastily degraded and told how horrible I was for doing myself up and making myself happy. Like I have stated already, makeup is more than just changing one's appearance, it is an art that not everyone can master. It is something different and a way of self-expression.
Why can't we all just respect each other's decisions and let people do what makes them happy? Because social media and just the society, in general, has tried to tell us what the requirements for beauty is. The reality is that we are all different and we are all beautiful in our own way.
You don't wear any makeup and that"s okay, and I wear tons of makeup and that's okay. You do you, beautiful!
