Denim is an essential. I don't know anyone who doesn't have a pair of jeans, jean shorts or a jean jacket. Denim can be paired with a multitude of other fabrics, including itself. Here's a quick guide to the denim on denim trend - guaranteed to steer you away from any fashion faux pas:

Personally, I've found that a dark wash is easier to wear as a full on denim on denim look. Though people may say that mixing washes looks better, it's up to you. A dark top with light bottoms looks good. However, it really depends on the circumstance and the type of jean you pick. Wearing a single wash head to toe looks better when the bottom piece shows some leg [ex: shorts or a mini skirt], as this breaks up the uniformity and steers you away from a cowboy look!

Choose wearable pieces [ex: not denim overalls with a denim vest on top]

Add interesting accessories to create an original and less uniform look.

Accept. Yes, the denim on denim trend is a controversial look. Some people love it, some people hate it. Forge your own opinion and embrace it.
