“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”-Romans 8:26.
I am at the point in my life when I need to be thinking about what I want to do, what profession I want to go in, what my passion is and so on. I have absolutely no idea what I want to do, and I often get frustrated that the answer isn’t obvious to me.
Then I start to think about God and His plan for my life. I expect Him to be angry, impatient and just as frustrated with me as I am with myself. Knowing the Father, He probably has already given me a million signs as to what His glorious plan is for me and what my ministry here on earth is. But God is not man. He does not feel the same way we do nor does he react the way we would. Our Father is merciful, forgiving and patient.
I have been told by different people a variety of professions I would thrive in and be good at. The majority of them I have dismissed because I feel like that isn’t for me. I’m nowhere near equipped and wouldn’t thrive, but sink. My weaknesses and insecurities come out, and I push the idea farther away. My weaknesses cause me to turn the opposite way and run when certain opportunities arise. All I can think is, "There is someone better more qualified than me for this." "I will fail." And more thoughts like those.
However, God sees more in us. He does not see just our weaknesses or insecurities. He sees a warrior of God. He sees the person He created with His own hands and breathed life into. He sees beauty power, strength. He sees the greatness we hold within.
God certainly knows us better than we know ourselves. He expects these weaknesses and insecurities. This can be seen in the story of Gideon. Gideon needed reassurance from God three times. The first two times Gideon initiated the need, but God Himself initiated the third. He takes active steps to accommodate every little weakness we have.
Time and time again throughout the Bible, we see God using the "least of these," instead of those who seem to be the best of the best. God sees more in our weaknesses than just frailty and incompetence like we do. He sees how He can be glorified through them. He sees the strength and power they hold.
So will you let your weaknesses and insecurities continue to stop you, or will you allow God to show you the strength and power they possess?
