As the results of the election made it clear to us that Donald Trump will be our next commander-in-chief, the hearts of millions, including my own, are greatly saddened. To live in a country where a man like Donald Trump has the ability to become president truly scares my fellow citizens and I. This has been the most important political event of this century. While this is ultimately a huge loss for society and our country, it is also a tremendous loss and let down for women, minorities, the LGBTQ community, along with many other groups. The things that we have been working so hard for decades could now be taken from us.
Throughout the length of this campaign, Hillary Clinton worked tirelessly to prove to all minorities that our voices were being heard and that something was being done about them. America has spoken, and it has spoken against the advancements that society has made under the presidency of Barrack Obama. This catastrophic event is truly saddening, embarrassing and discouraging.
However, we are the United States of America. We have been through worse. Throughout my education and short twenty years of life, I have learned, in great depth, the struggles that Americans have faced over the centuries. We see in our history textbooks the efforts made by women to reach equality, and this week we were able to utilize what our ancestors have done for us by giving us a voice to vote in this presidential election. This country has made tremendous advancements over the course of the past 100 years, and just because Donald Trump will be our next president does not mean that we will stop the fight that our grandmothers and great-grandmothers started for us. We will not let them, or this country, down. It is especially imperative now, more than ever, that we make our voices heard. We must stand strongly for everyone who is not represented by Trump. The millennials of this society have now seen what happens when not enough people vote or participate in political happenings. Now the future is in our hands.
If there is one feeling that is currently more present for me than the feeling of disappointment, it is empowerment. I feel empowered to fight for myself and for my fellow citizens. Now, we do not have a president who is going to do the fighting for us. Instead, we will be required to fight for ourselves. Any change in society we want will be a change that we create. WE are responsible for what happens next. No one else. The people responsible for fighting our battles is us, and that is how it should be. While many people think that the election of Donald Trump will bring about great diversion between society, it, in fact, will bring us together and unite us as one in this war against inhumanity.
Do not fear the future, for we will, without a doubt, overcome this. Let your fear induce strength in your hearts. Donald Trump being President of the United States will bring us together in ways that we never thought possible. I have never had more determination than I do right now. Women, we will break that glass ceiling. Now we are more determined than ever. People of color, we will not let segregation and racism overcome this country once again. We stand for you. LGBTQ communities, you just recently have advanced your rights within this society, and you best believe we will not let anything happen to those rights. We are united. We are America. We will fight until we win.
Here's to the next four years.
