We So Needed Krampus Last Christmas

"His name is Krampus. He and his helpers did not come to give, but to take"

We So Needed Krampus Last Christmas

Alrighty then! So it's been three weeks and some change after Christmas that I'm writing this. Yes, I know I'm late; I'm very much aware of that. Sue me. I had to adult after the holidays with credit cards being maxed out, dealing with crap during the week, and even worse b.s. starting from Friday nights going into the weekend. In case you were ever wondering where I had disappeared to, that's what I was dealing with; no details of course.

But anyway, this is supposed to be about Krampus. Why? I don't know about you, but this past Christmas was the most expensive one yet. Santa had to dig deep into his pockets to make this year's Christmas happen. Whew! The top most expensive was my parents' gift along with my boyfriend's. For those that know me, they know very well I'll go out of my way, but that's not the point.

Who the hell is Krampus? Based on the generous knowledge of Wikipedia, "Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic folklore figure described as a 'half-goat, half-demon', who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved." Basically, the complete opposite of St. Nicholas aka Santa Claus. Lucky for you, I'm going off the movie "Krampus" (2015) since there's a bit of humor involved instead of just information.

Now, Krampus is basically the epitome of "what happens when hope is lost, when belief is forgotten, and the Christmas spirit dies." It's all about gimme, gimme, gimme, more taking than giving. It's been more about the presents and what's inside them than the family you spend it with. Do we have Christmas spirit? I'd like to say we do, in a sense. But it is the selfish kind of Christmas spirit.

Don't get me wrong! There's nothing wrong with wanting all these nice things; hell, I want 'em too. They're all so nice & shiny, and technology based. However, there is something wrong with being ungrateful for what you already have as well as being unappreciative of the people who give them to you. Keep in mind, there is a large difference between a want and a need as well as giving and giving with your heart--give like you actually mean it, not just because it's polite and you want to show off your manners. Rude.

Seriously, though! What better way to bring families together than with a big help from Krampus? The majority of us already lack proper Christmas spirit; we hate at least 25% of our family members along with some choice individuals; not to mention, we more or less expect to get what we had on our Christmas list It's freaking awesome, isn't it? Sh*t I'd want that as a bauble as a reminder to not lose Christmas spirit but mostly to throw it at ungrateful and bratty ass people; like stop your complaining. If you don't want it, give it to me! Hell, I'll appreciate it if you won't!

"He is the shadow of St. Nicholas... Like he had for thousands of years, Krampus came not to reward, but to punish. Not to give, but to take."

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
