Its that time of year again, so put on your lederhosen and stop by the Oktoberfest at Mount Angel. And the best part are the delicious, immaculate, hot, and fresh FUNnel cakes.
Cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, Bavarian cream, chocolate, and whipped cream! YUM!
Over the past few years I have worked at the Funnel Cake booth that the school has run since before my mom was in high school. We have a reputation to uphold now, since we make the best funnel cakes around.
Stepping in to the booth, you are immediately lambasted with the smell of fried food and powdered sugar, along with the heat from the sun and the fryer. Also, there are the people running the booth who are either pouring the batter into the fryer, topping the funnel cakes, taking orders, accepting money, or cleaning. The atmosphere may be a little hectic at first but usually, everything runs smoothly. But every booth has people who make food and take orders. I like to think our booth is unique.
It is a rarity for half of the booth to be standing still; almost always at least a few people are shaking what their momma gave them. Though I feel obligated to also write that they are not exactly good dancers, and their moves may not impress you. That is okay, though, because working in the booth is about fundraising, serving, and having fun.
The best part about oktoberfest is the cheers. Our booth, which won best booth at oktoberfest last year :), really does put the fun in funnel cakes. We yell and banter that from the booth, attracting people to our booth and also possibly annoying the other vendors because they must hear our raillery all day long. After a couple hours our voices become courser and our spirits brighter, and our legs a little too tired.
You may be able to take the person out of the FUNnel cake booth, but you cannot take the booth out of the person, because the smell will stick to you for a while. I still smell like powdered sugar.Though, I suppose there could be worse things.
