We Got Older But Never Stopped Loving These 12 Things

"Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional."

Let's be honest, most of u, at least from time to time, are still children at heart. We look back on the days when we could explore playgrounds without worry, run around at a friend's house, play with a plethora of toys, and more. There are a lot of things we used to love during those days, but now as young adults in college or beyond, some of them are hard to come by. Or are at least not very socially acceptable for us to engage with. It doesn't mean we stopped loving them though.

We should feel no shame in still loving things we loved as a child or anything made especially for kids. Because to tell the truth, we are even still obsessed with these 12 things...

1. Play-Doh

Play-Doh by LMoonlight

"Fun to play with, not to eat!" was the slogan of an early 2000's childhood, and to be honest, whenever I see those bright-yellow packs with colorful tops, I still get really excited. Plus, Play-Doh makes for a great stress reliever as you squeeze it like you would a stress ball!

2. Disney music/movies/shows

Yes they are all animated and yes their typical audience age is 5-11 year olds, but a good Disney movie is truly timeless. From funny characters to catchy songs, we've all totally watched a Disney movie when we were way above the average Disney age. And there are Disney playlists on Spotify for a reason!

3. Sand castles

Ok so maybe our sandcastles never really looked like this (though if they did, more power to you!), but there was no end to the fun of being at the beach and trying desperately to make the sand form to your exact vision. And this is still fun! Although it can get slightly more competitive now...

4. Nap-Time!

It's no secret that nap-time was often wasted on the young kindergartners (I never even slept half the time) but in high demand within high schools. And in college, people definitely use their breaks between classes to have a quick nap before they have to function again.

5. Disney Channel Original Movies

"WHAT TEAM?"

"WILDCATS"

Yes, our favorite fictional basketball team was the Wild Cats, we spent our summers at Camp Rock, and even now we like to check on Mal and her gang in "Descendants." I can't tell you how many DCOM (Disney Channel Original Movie) nights I've had, but it was significant enough to say that we never stopped loving these cheesy classics.

6. Onesies!

No, these are not just for small babies who need to be easily dressed. These can be for fully-grown adults who just want to be super comfortable and adorable.

7. Coloring books

Even businesses and health experts have caught onto this, now making intricate "Adult Coloring Books." I still prefer the kid's version, but whatever your preference, it is often really calming and nice to fill up every space with just the right color.

8. Playgrounds

Technically most are made for smaller children, but if you've ever seen a group of teenagers come across a playground, you know how utterly excited everyone gets. It's always a fun place to just hang out, try all the things you did as a kid, and come on, who doesn't love just racing down a slide? Plus you can never grow tired of swings.

9. Legos, Legos, and more Legos

These creative building blocks don't just fascinate the younger generation anymore. Kids who grew up building Lego sets often have very little desire to stop. Especially since there are Lego sets on everything from Hogwarts to Disney to Ghostbusters to whatever else you can imagine.

10. Stickers

I used to have a sticker collection when I was younger, and I felt as though it was my proudest accomplishment. And whenever a teacher would give me a gold star on my paper, I couldn't be happier. Now we still hold a love for stickers, even though they may not be in collections or on our graded papers. You can see this on our abundance of laptop stickers, bumper stickers, and even on our walls!

11. Capri-Suns

Honorable Mentions include Gushers and Fruit Roll-Ups. If you've ever seen a group of teenagers freak out when they see a fridge full of Capri-Suns, then you know that the love for these fruity-flavored drinks is still extremely high.

12. Stuffed Animals

Everyone's favorite cuddle buddy! These can be of sentimental value or just there for extreme cuteness, but these little guys are with us until the end. And that means even when we are way out of the general childhood stage.

I'm sure there are many more we could add, but the fact still remains that we are all young at heart and love a taste of our younger days as we face the scary (and exhilarating) real, adult world.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
