Why We Need To Vote

It seems like the recent tragedies have left us devastated . We have become stuck in depression due to these attacks. Any death is a tragedy in itself, but as all generations have in the past, we must pave a way for a better future for our children and for ourselves. Learning from our mistakes sounds simple, but the effort that it requires leaves us delaying any change. Both politicians running for presidency may be unpopular, but which one can lead America into the future, past these attacks and the war on terror? Which candidate is suitable to take this country out of its depression and bring forth an era of love and good will? Most people say that since both candidates are unpopular, they should bail on their vote and decide to sit back without casting a vote. The issue is that as Americans, we must excersise our right to vote, even if both candidates are unpopular.

Voting is an essential part of being an American, as well as a chance to contribute to the democratic system, the foundation of this nation. It allows us the chance to intervene in politics and cast our decision based on our criteria of a "good candidate." This election season is one of confusion, anger and even denial. Americans have denied the fact that one of these candidates is bound to be the next president of the United States and as much as we would hate to see Obama step down, we need to realize that the next president is voted by us, the people. So let us exercise our right to vote for a candidate that brings love to combat the hatred and animosity that is spreading over people. Let us vote, not just to excersise our responsibility as Americans, but as children of a free nation. Let us cast a vote for hope, hope that we continue the legacy of the last 43 presidents. Hope that moving forward, we have less terror and violence.

Terror is a tragedy in itself, but meaningless distractions are not the way to go about moving on from it. Involve yourself in current affairs, if possible by simply voting for a candidate that your personally believe has the ability to take America into an era of love. We have been surrounded by hatred and violence for the past few weeks, not just internationally, but at home as well. People look for someone or something to blame to pass the time and find futile causes to a chain reaction. While finding the cause to an issue is one step closer to finding a solution, we must take steps for a better long term effect, through our policies. Politics is a solution that we choose to ignore, but it is the only means to move forward. By casting a vote this election, we are contributing to the democratic system, we are contributing to America.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
