We Need to Stop Clowning Around

How the current clown pranks could have deadly reprocussions

We Need to Stop Clowning Around

This year has had some crazy events; from our current election and all that has to offer to the United Kingdom leaving the European Union there has been no lack of the absolutely bizarre. But one thing that has really gained the attention of national news are the clowns.

That's right, people are dressing up in creepy clown outfits and in some cases; carrying weapons, chasing runners, or trying to lure children into the woods for some unknown reason. And that's not the only unknown piece to this story, nobody knows why people are doing this.

Some have speculated it may all be a promotional stunt for the upcoming "It" remake that will be coming to theaters in 2017. While this theory does make sense, New Line (the company producing the film) has yet to make a comment whether this is true or false.

As of right now Americans are left to wonder that, if this isn't a publicity stunt, why are people participating in this twisted and dangerous prank? What is their gain from getting dressed up like a clown and completely terrorizing people in their neighborhoods? What does this overall mean for Halloween? Clown isn't the most popular costume per se, but many forms of clown costumes are made. So who's to say someone's fun on Halloween dressed as a creepy clown, won't be mistaken for something more menacing?

The colorful beings have taken an even darker turn though. Threats from twitter accounts such as "ClownGanng1" have taken place saying things like "...Grange Middle School and Fairfield High School get ready Tuesday at 10:30 am. Happy Clowning hehe." These threats have not been taking lightly. Schools have been put on lockdown, students sent home early, and police nation wide on high alert for clowns.

Out of the 50 states 38 have had clown sightings of some sort or another and the list and sightings are growing every day. Which leads one to wonder, do these funny looking humans know that the second amendment is still in affect?

Whether you support it or not, Americans do have the legal right to bear arms, and you would think this is something the clowns would keep in mind. While no one has been injured by these clowns, nor have the clowns themselves been injured, there are people in this country who do like to take matters into their own hands and not phone the police if something suspicious is happening.

While I personally feel all of this clown craze is terrifying, it is above all dangerous. It really is a matter of time before someone, citizen or clown, is seriously hurt or killed. I think that those who are participating in the dressing up, whether as a prank or a serious threat, need to stop their clowning around before this turns deadly.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!
