Hollywood Has Taken Remakes Captive

Do we REALLY need them?

Hollywood has seen an increase in movie remakes ranging from the Jurassic Park movies to Total Recall. It also isn't just solely remakes but movies who's sequels come out years later, such as the Incredibles movies and the Toy Story movies. Why does Hollywood and studios do this? Is it only for the money or for the audience? Are we as an audience expressing that we want more remakes?

There are always two sides to every story and in this case there are two sides to every movie studio when they pitch the idea of remaking a movie that was once a loved film years before. In the case of the Jurassic Park movies, the first film was such a classic. Nothing could come close to it. They tried with the second and third movie in the series but obviously the first will always be the best. So why did they continue on with the story and make it more modern? I do believe in some case it was a point for more money. It's the business and they do just want money. They will try to squeeze it out as much as they can from anything they can. Still, I believe there was some point in the conversation about how that world would look today. They did a good job with it and brought so many more people to admire the movies but was it needed? Same goes with the remakes of the Total Recall movie. It was a remake to an extent. It had the same basic storyline and title but there was a slight twist. The characters were different, the big reveal and visuals were different but still carried that underlining story. With this movie, I'm not sure. It could have been about the money or the fans. Most likely the money because it's Hollywood. Still, did we really need another remake?

There are also the cases of making movies years after the first one. In the most recent case, there is the Incredibles movies where there was a huge 14 year gap between them. This one may be a little different due to the fact that it is an animated movie and it takes time to draw and actually animate and put the whole movie together but in the cases of movies such as Men In Black or The Mad Max series it is a little different. These types of movies usually don't take too long to make but there have been gaps between them. I believe that before the big gap in these series, the movies were done and completed. I believe there was no intention of making more. I think that studios saw the potential future movies had and the technology that was being made that it allowed them to further the storyline and also make more money.

So what now? Should we be done with remakes forever? I say yes and no. Yes because we are using new technology everyday and they can make the difference between and 80's movie and more recent film. We can add better graphic and 4k technology that can really bring a movie to life. I say no to movies that they storied have ended to be kept that way. The only reason that seems to make sense when there is such a big gap between movies is that executives wanted to make money. Obviously nothing I saw will make anything change in the Hollywood world but it can on you. Think about your favorite movies and think about it being remade. Would you like it? Would you be excited? It's all up the individual person.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
