As college students, our time as teenagers or “young adults” is slowly, yet decidedly, running out. While numerous aspects of adulthood are interesting and exciting (living on our own, having a career, being 21), the idea of being solely responsible for us is a little terrifying. Time has seemed to move so fast: What happened to dealing with cooties on the playground, completing forms for field trips, or the unexplainable excitement of getting new markers and binders for class? Everything seemed less complicated, more special. Disney movies are a shining example of this euphoria. Though cheesy, Disney Channel Original Movies are classics and who didn’t like the opening song? Here’s an ode to some of the best movies (and moments) of childhood:

1. "Smart House"
A little more than a decade before Apple was pushing Siri as the software update of the future, masterminds at Disney came up with "Smart House," a fully automated home that could answer any question or request. This was the movie of imagination: Some of the capabilities Pat (the name of the computerized system) hadn’t even been invented. And though the plot highlights the unpredictability and dangers of smart technology, as kids we couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like a house that could do truly anything.

2. "Luck of the Irish"
We all remember, and probably wish to forget, making the awkward transition from middle school to high school. Everything was changing: Add in braces and stupid trends and you have a recipe for a couple unexpectedly weird, embarrassing situations. However, I don’t know of anyone who grew red hair and pointy ears during high school. Kyle Johnson, who was the star basketball player before he shrunk several feet, realizes his family is actually comprised of leprechauns in one of cinema’s strangest depiction of puberty. Lessons learned? Not all leprechauns are as nice as the Lucky Charms guy.

3. "Halloweentown"
Besides the trick-or-treating and carving pumpkins, an October classic was the airing of the Halloweentown movies. They were perfect as kids: Not too scary, but spooky enough to feel more mature than we were. Nothing screams Disney louder than a group of kids realizing they have powers, traveling to hone those abilities and then defeating evil that should be much more powerful than a group of school kids. But this is Disney, not real life, and magic always trumps logic.
Unfortunately, this is not a comprehensive list. "Johnny Tsunami," "Get a Clue," "Double Crossed," "Zenon," "The Cheetah Girls," "Cadet Kelly" are all fondly remembered. And while we will continue to mature and eventually become “real” adults, it’s still fun to remember the great treasures of childhood. Plus, we can all agree the Disney we grew up on is 10 times better than dogs with blogs or empty movies!
