Growing up, and even to this day, I have always been excited about “tomorrow”, what’s coming next, or let us just say, the future, to put it bluntly. To me, there is something so remarkably invigorating, yet eerie about the future. I would not call myself anxious or “a worrier”, rather, more so constantly interested and intrigued about everything and everyone around me. This never stops, anywhere I drive, I am always saying to myself, “I wonder where all these people are going today”, or people-watching, do not even get me started on that. People are everywhere, so everywhere I go I just watch people and want to know their story. What do they do for a living? What are their passions? What could I learn from them? What are they all about? It’s incredible, the world around us is incredible, it’s full of life, passion, and different people with amazing stories; oftentimes we get so caught up in our own busy life and forget to stop and just look around. We are so concerned about our own life and so self-centered that we rarely stop to talk to people, get to know someone new, and learn something outside our own little bubble of our own life.
Trust me, the initial awkward first two seconds of initiating the conversation might be awkward or they may not want to talk, but you will find someone at some point and I promise, you will learn something that will probably change your life. What makes this so difficult for so many people is the fact that our society is so centered on technology, cell phones and social media. The majority of people’s lives are centered around this little device that is full of great benefits allowing us to communicate easily, but really honestly is just full of endless stress and expectations.
Get interested in what is going on in this world, talk to people, meet someone new, and listen to what they have to say. God forbid do a random act of kindness for someone you’ve never met. This is the only way our world is going to progress out of this technological self-centered society. In the scheme of things, you are not going to learn much or how to improve your own life unless you learn what’s around you and the lives other people are living.
Start talking, get interested. The world and everyone around you will begin to amaze you.
