We Can't Live In Fear

It may seem a bit cliché, but every single day we live and thrive to hopefully see the next and so forth. When people stop and think about the things that scare them most, they tend to look at life a bit differently than before. We shouldn't be looking at life differently if we're scared of something--we should take life on as an adventure that we get to go on every day. We wake up and think "What's my next task?" And if you aren't doing this, you should, because it's going to help you.

Fear is something that can bind you to a certain person, place, or thing. Your fears keep you from doing things, not because you aren't able to. It's because you won't let your mind do it. If you want to be President of the United States, you work hard and go to school and move your way there. Remember that the only person in your way is you and what you tell yourself. Living in fear can be like a prison. For the longest time, I was afraid of death, but remembering what was waiting for me at the gates changed my fear. Now, sharks that's another story. You may feel trapped now but if you open yourself up to options, it'll help you make decisions along with not feeling too stuck.

You have to be willing to get rid of something negative in your life. Whether this is a person or somewhere you live, if you are surrounded by negativity, then it's going to make you feel out of place, and you'll be scared to speak up. We need more people in the world to stand up for those around them without a voice because you coming out of your shell could help the next person. Show whatever is hurting you that you are, in fact, stronger and more willed than it could ever be.

Each day could be our last. Reminding yourself may scare you. Therefore, we shouldn't have to be reminded; we should just live helping others and trying to be as happy as we can be. There are people out there in the world who do harm others, but we can't live in fear due to recent events. We must strive forward, because if we stopped in our tracks, then that's a win for them. At some point we won't live in fear, and that's what conquers evil.

Fear is going to keep you locked out of the world, so look further into yourself to become a strong and courageous individual. Find something that speaks to you and focus your energy on that instead of the things that scare you or stray you away from. Hold your faith close to your heart. That way, you always have somewhere to fall if you fail. Nothing is as strong as love and strength in the world, and it will always win over fear and evil.

Be sure that you aren't stopping to think every minute about what you are scared about and meet that thought instead with a smile and think about all the things you could change.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
