I kept hearing the term "millennial," and I was so confused. I kept wondering who they were referring to as millennials, until I realized it was my generation. Oh God, as much as I hate labeling myself as a millennial... we are not all the same!
The word millennial has such a negative connotation. I mean, people think we're narcissistic, lazy, and all about technology... Okay, maybe we are all about technology but, I don't think we're all lazy or narcissists.
I actually don't think all millennials are the same anyways.
I read an article that talked about how millennials didn't value their love lives and how they kept putting off marriage and children. The only reason I can justify putting off marriage and children is to make sure that we have our lives together before we decide to bring someone else into it. I love seeing couples that are in love the "old-fashioned" way, but I cannot see myself doing that. I mean, I'm really big on feminism, and I can't fathom the thought of being the typical "housewife." I don't understand why we can't be independent and have a career first before we get married and dedicate our entire lives to other people? I'm not saying its a terrible thing, but I really want to be established first.
It reminds me of a funny conversation I had with one of my cousins! First off, she absolutely HATES guys, I mean hates, hates, hates guys! Anyways, we had a conversation about how she doesn't ever want to get married and she doesn't want to have kids either. That conversation is actually what lead me to say that all millennials aren't the same. I realized that eventually I do want to be married and have kids, but right now the whole "white picket fence" situation can wait!
