We Are No Better Than Donald Trump

Why we should not be sharing photos of the naked Donald Trump statue

I admit it, I laughed when I saw the naked statue of Donald Trump standing in Union Square last week. His hands resting atop his large belly as he scowled into the crowd of onlookers felt like payback for all of the bigotry he has subjected us to this year. As I moved on with my day, picking up kids, calling my parents, making dinner for my family, I realized something... I just laughed at another human beings pain. Let me back this up a bit...

Donald Trump has made some horrible statements over the course of his life. He has openly mocked a disabled journalist, he began the "birther" movement, he plans to deport 11 million immigrants and ban Muslims from entering the country. And so on. You get it. Donald Trump is not a person I would want to keep company with. But that aside, Donald Trump is a human being. He is a father, a grandfather, a husband, a son, an uncle, and a business owner.

As these statues began to show up across the country, those of us who feel that Donald Trump represents the worst part of a bygone America spread the images across social media like it was a hot potato.

The statue is titled, "The Emperor Has No Balls" and as the title suggests, each statue is missing a form of its anatomy. At a Republican debate, Donald Trump used his platform to attempt to debunk rumors that he has small hands. He informed the crowd that 'if they're small, something else must be small.' I guarantee you there's no problem. I guarantee." The artist used the opportunity to place Donald Trump's insecurities front and center – removal of his balls with the addition of small genitalia.

Even the New York Parks Department had fun with it stating, "NYC Parks stands firmly against any unpermitted erection in city parks, no matter how small.”

There are a lot of reasons to be angry with Donald Trump. The moment that we placed a naked statue of him that draws attention to his biggest insecurity, we became no better than Donald Trump – we became bullies.

I am not at all a fan of Donald Trump. He is a sexist narcissist who treats women as objects and has brought out the absolute worst in some of our citizens. I want him gone. However, I will not stoop to his level. I will use words that have meaning and showcase facts in order to bring him down.
I will not vote for him in November. I will not be a bully.

I will not be Donald Trump.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
