I have been finding myself lately wondering about my generation. Chock full of go-getters and "started from the bottom now we're here's." We are the generation that never stops; we will blast through the glass ceiling and take the world by storm! We are never satisfied.
We are never satisfied.
We create a temporary world for ourselves. Our snapchats disappear in 24 hours, pictures and statuses can be deleted, we invest our time into hook ups and half of our relationships die in the "talking stage." We change our hair depending on the season. The newest phone comes out and we have to have it. We stop investing in family and build our own out of fair weather friends. We fall in love with people we barely know.
Our lives have become temporary.
We've all seen it, that picture of the elderly couple :"If something was broken we fixed it; we didn't throw it away," and my generation has seemed to forgotten that. But it's true; nothing and no one in this world is perfect, not even your "soulmate," but that doesn't mean you need to find someone new. You don't have to jump from person to person until you find the "perfect person." It will not happen.
Our relationships aren't just temporary, almost every aspect of our lives isn't set in stone. We are constantly hopping from one thing to the next, terrified of becoming content.
"How do you know you aren't settling?" "Julie isn't really happy, she totally just settled for that job."
"I can't believe she married ______, she could do better."
What is so wrong with being content in your life? Hit pause and look at where you are and how far you've come. Take a breath, stop jumping from guy to guy or job to job. Appreciate where you come from. Stop running from your past, if you don't like what you see in the rearview mirror then stop and change directions. Write your own future.
I'm afraid that we will forget what it's like to be happy with what we have, that all we'll know is that we have to have the newest, the fastest, the best. Soon the older generations will be gone and we will just keep jumping.
Never satisfied, always temporary.
It's OK to be content sometimes. You don't have to keep searching. If it's broken, fix it. Don't run to the store for another.
