Greeks. The word has a negative meaning to some, but to others it means home, brotherhood, or sisterhood. To some, it means everything. To others, it means something. On campuses across the country you can find "the greeks," with their letters plastered on their chest, probably running a million miles a minute, and occasionally if it's a sorority wearing too much glitter and tulle.
Yes, we have parties and raise countless dollars for our philanthropy projects. We have a good time and we love our brotherhoods or sisterhoods. It is a special bond that we all share and just because you aren't a part of it doesn't mean you need to hate on it. We are Greek, but we are so much more than our letters.
Let me explain. I can't speak for all campus', but on my campus it seems to be when someone wins something, for example Homecoming King or Queen, and they are Greek, that is the only thing that people have to say about them. I am so tired of hearing this and I feel like I speak for Greeks everywhere when I say we truly are so much more. We are leaders on campus and across the country, we are lovers of sports, animals, and music, we are regular students that bust our butts to stay on top of everything. We bleed our school colors and we are not afraid to speak our minds. We give everything we have to our school, our organizations and each other.
This being said, before judging someone on being "just another greek," stop and think about all of the others things they may be doing on campus or in the community because we are so much more than "just another Greek."
