The perception of the greek community at colleges and universities world wide is often frowned upon. Many individuals do not see the reasoning behind joining greek life. The majorities opinion of sororities tends to be that they are cliquey, stuck up, groups of girls who “pay” to be apart of an organization. Fraternities don’t seem to get the best reputation either. These men referred to as “frat boys” are often seen as conceited and also as players. Overall the greek community is known as the “partiers.”
The individuals not affiliated in the greek community do not see who we are or what we represent. Greek life is far beyond cliques and players. We come together as one, we represent a bond, and we show what unity looks like. All sororities and fraternities represent themselves in different ways too. Each one of us has a different philanthropy and different beliefs, but together we represent a community. Our differences bring us together to show a tight bond that is shown through years of participating members of the community.

These negative judgments need to be adjusted; people need to see that joining greek life is far more than the parties. Your organization gives you an opportunity for meeting new people that ultimately leads to great networking possibilities. Becoming a part of this community opens so many doors, giving endless opportunities to excel in all that you do. While in school there is plenty of help offered with schoolwork, there are internship and even career opportunities presented within greek life.
Greeks get involved in and out of their communities. We strive to lend a helping hand to make a difference. Whether this is volunteering, or becoming involved on campus, we want to be known for all of the wonderful attributions we bring to the table. We don’t want nongreek individuals believing the stereotypes that are out there.
Not only do greeks come together while attending their college or university, but after we graduate we stay in touch. These are our life long friends, our life long families. This is a community that holds an irreplaceable bond in so many people’s hearts. We cherish the bonds held with each person involved in the community and the interactions continue for years and years after graduation.
