The American political sphere is falling apart, pop culture has dictated what we say and believe, and because of this, we see that the world is going crazy. We see that we are becoming Kanye West.
Kanye West is a man that is as hated for his Internet rants, concert speeches and utterly disgraceful comments about other celebrities as he is praised for his innovative touch in hip hop, longevity within his career and even soliciting provoking responses from our past two presidents.
This is the same Kanye that we put down for disrespecting Taylor Swift, the same one that said Bush doesn’t like Black people, and the guy that believes he knows Pablo really well and for that the guy is an (insert body part that excretes waste).
However, do we need to be reminded that when it all falls down Kanye is the same man that built himself into a figurehead in American culture?
Look at the 2016 election for example. Kanye can be found in most of the candidates that we are watching run for office.
Ben Carson was a neurosurgeon that did great things behind the scenes before coming forth as someone who thought his intellect was needed elsewhere. Kanye West produced great beats throughout the 2000's before decided everything needed his input.
Bernie Sanders is a man who has won over the hearts of our young people through his relentless and unwavering commitment to making it as the top dog in America's biggest political competition. Kanye West seems to only release albums at this point to be at the top of Google and Twitter search categories.
Even Donald Trump has Kanye characteristics. Donald Trump is the most polarizing force in politics currently because of his ignorant comments on what seems to be any subject matter he can think of. Now who decides to rant and comment on everything, particularly in the form of tweets at the moment? Kanye West.
Kanye West did mention, to some hype, that he would one day join the political arena. As he accepted the MTV Video Vanguard Award at 2015's VMAs, he announced his candidacy for the 2020 election. The whirlwind and possible mess Kanye could bring to the White House does not seem that far fetched now that we are in one of the most volatile political climates ever.
As we sit back and ask if we can save ourselves, we must first be real with ourselves and admit that maybe we are not all gods...but we are all Kanye Wests.
