Everyone can understand the feeling of wanting to get away from time to time. Whether it is because the stress of life is too much to bare, or simply the fact that being in one place for so long gets to be absurdly boring. Whatever the reason, it's a common feeling among the human race. Some tend to feel that restlessness a little bit more than others; the urge to get up and go somewhere just because. I just so happen to be one of those people.
Wanderlust is that flicker of light in someone's eye when they hear about travels they wish they'd been on themselves. They want to know the whole story. I, personally, am a reserved girl, usually with little to say, but I will listen for hours and talk to just about anyone about visiting different parts of the world.
Sometimes wanderlust is more hidden; it's within the man or woman who has always been smitten with the idea of traveling the world, but has not yet made conscious efforts to. Perhaps this is because it is an uncertain pursuit that poses a lot of questions -- particularly about finances and pausing a more "realistic" and down-to-earth lifestyle. Yet, a yearning to see what this world has to offer seeps into their dreams and plucks at their waking thoughts.
Years back, I dreamed of becoming a writer. One that could travel wherever I pleased to gain inspiration and experience; to learn the true definition of adventure. That dream is still alive within me. It will never disappear completely because I will thirst for all that I have yet to see and learn about even after I'm gone.
Wanderlust is a remarkably cruel, yet spiritual, sensation. It elevates and alleviates the wariness of never living up to one's greatest potential. At times, it can become the motivation necessary to do the best that we can because the better we do now, the closer our dreams will become.
In one's lowest moments, the hope of one day seeing the world and its greatness can offer the courage to move forward anyway.
Sometimes, a person with wanderlust is seen as a dreamer. Their minds are always traipsing around with idealistic wishes that keep their heads close to the sky, though they try their hardest to make sure their feet stay planted firmly in the dirt at the end of the day.
Despite the nastiness and terror on this planet, there is also so much beauty. So many historical tales lost in ancient cities and deep caves; from the colossal mountains to the darkest trenches of the oceans we barely know anything about.
I am content with my home, but it's not all that I want to know of the world.
Everyone has a bit of wanderlust inside of them somewhere. How strong is yours?
