Ways To Stop Blowing Your Money In The Summer

And why I should learn from this.

Ways To Stop Blowing Your Money In The Summer

So it's summer, or more than halfway through it, and you've managed to save little to no money for the upcoming school year. At least, that's where I stand. Little do we know, there actually are ways to start saving up money and saving up money fast. Here are just a few:

1. Figure out a way to put cash to the side after each paycheck.

Don't just go ahead and blow all the money you're making. Instead, make it your second job to transfer an amount of money from your paycheck each week into a savings account or just somewhere you won't spend it. You'll be happy you did this by the end of the summer when you're scrambling for money.

2. Don't buy a tanning package.

Guilty as charged. I know, I know, you're busy working and hanging out with friends, whatever, that you don't have time to lay out. I'm sure you could find some time in your busy days to lay outside in your backyard for a few hours or so and catch some rays. Little do you know how much all your tanning money adds up... and besides that, it's unhealthy!

3. Don't go see movies!

Again, guilty as charged. Even if it's $5 day, it all adds up. Wait around for that movie to come out on DVD, I'm sure it won't kill you if you don't see it right away. Just stick at home and watch some Netflix if you're in the mood to watch a movie!

4. Shop at cheaper stores.

There is a way to find deals at the mall, or wherever else. A decent tip is to try out TjJ-Maxx or Marshall's -- cute clothes for a cheaper price! Nothing wrong with that.

5. Stop spending money on fast food!

I'm extremely guilty of this one. It's late at night, you've had a long day at work and you're just craving a 4 for 4 from Wendy's, well, stop! Go home, make yourself a nice bowl of cereal and call it a night. Your bank account and your calorie count will thank you for this one.

6. Ration your gas wisely!

You don't always have to run out to the mall, or to the movies, or to get food. Plan your time wisely and do everything all in one trip! It'll save your gas money, that's for sure.

So I listed these as if I follow any or will begin to follow any, and I can promise anybody reading this, that I do try. But it's an extremely difficult, and almost impossible, task. So props to anyone who can follow through with this list and give your bank account some loving.

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
