There are certain times in my life where I am not afraid to admit that I have been a mess, and I mean a literal mess. I'm sure we've all hit that point where we just don't know where any of our stuff is, what tests and assignments are coming up, etc. Hopefully with these 5 tips, staying organized will be a little easier.
Get a Planner and Actually Use it.
I find I'm the most organized when I have one place to write everything down. The problem for me is, I'm not consistent with it. At the beginning of the school year, or quarter, I'll write down all the test dates and all upcoming assignments, but then never look at it again. I've even tried using the calendar app on my phone, and am still not very successful at it. It's also good to keep in mind what works for someone else, may not work for you; for example I've found that I am more fond of the monthly spread rather than a week by week, because it's less to keep up with and I can see my entire month planned out on one or two pages. Recently I've been using a bullet journal, and I really like it because I get more creative freedom and if I miss a week there's not a whole empty week with nothing written on it, I can just skip it and start drawing for the next week. Do a bit a trial and error and see what works best for you.
Color Coding.
Not only can color coding look visually appealing, but it can also help you distinguish between different topics and subjects. Typically I'll pick out a color for a class and highlight or used a colored pen for everything I need to do for that class. Or if I'm studying, I'll highlight all of my vocabulary words or formulas in a certain color and highlight all of the definitions or answers in a different color. I've found that it's easier for me to remember things easier.
Create a Schedule and Follow It.
When I see I have a bunch of assignments starting to pile up, I'll create a schedule for myself to help get them all done in a timely matter. I'll look at everything that I need to do, think about how long it'll take for me to do them, and divide them up accordingly. However, making a schedule isn't the only thing, you also need to make sure you follow it. I find it less intimidating to have an action plan on what needs to get done.
Daily To-Do Lists.
Having a To-Do list makes it easier to see what you need to get done on that day. Whether it's written down on a piece of paper or somewhere on your phone, being able to actually see what you need to get done is easier than trying to remember everything you need to do. If you weren't able to finish everything, just write it down for the next day. Personally, I find it super satisfying to look at a completely checked off list of everything I was able to get done.
Spring Cleaning.
Sometimes a good cleaning session can help make everything look and seem so much more organized. Getting rid of old assignments, books, clothes, everything and anything you want. This can help you feel invigorated and motivated. It's also a great starting place to keep being organized.
I'm sure there are many more ways to stay organized or different ways that work better for you. Life can get busy and sometimes we just let it sweep everything up, but being organized can help keep us a little more sane.
