6 Ways To Keep Your Dorm Organized

Organization is not always easy, but you can make it easy!

6 Ways To Keep Your Dorm Organized

Dorm rooms can be really hard to organize and even harder to keep organized. Take it from someone who moved three times in three years. Thankfully, my mom and aunt were there to help out. So here are some of the ways we always pack/unpack and the things we use to organize and make things a little bit less complex:

1. Ikea organizers

These are the number 1 best way to stay organized. Use the smaller ones in your drawers to keep things separated and the large ones to store things under the bed or in a closet. I always pack in the large organizers and then store the clothes I'm not using under my bed because they zip up and keep your stuff clean and safe! Plus, they fold up nice and flat if you wanna take the organizers on-the-go when you move.

2. Plastic 3 drawer cart

They come in all shapes and sizes and can hold all kinds of stuff. I use mine to hold my snacks so it's all in one place and contained. They're also great for clothing and the small ones for jewelry and accessories.

3. The bags your sheets and bedding come in.

They seem like garbage at first, but they can actually be really great for organization and moving. Store your extra sheets in your bedding bag with a dryer sheet so they stay fresh, and then when you move out, just store your blanket in it again so it's easy to move! Many people throw the bag out and then have to put their blanket into a trash bag or have nothing to keep it in as they move. You can also you the small bags from your sheets for storing items you don't use a lot or even when you travel to keep your undergarments and socks in.

4. Command hooks

Most people love command strips for hanging decor, but command hooks are a whole other level of awesome. Use them to hang jewelry, lights, keys, bags, literally anything. And they come in different sizes!

5. Empty shoe boxes

These are probably one of my favorite ways of storage. For the shoes I love, I usually just keep them in the box to keep them safe. But with all the other empty boxes, I store my desk/school supplies when I move, and just small things I like keeping but don't know where to put. They keep things decluttered. One of the small things I like is Cracker Barrel syrup, and so it goes into the extra boxes. Then when you want it, just pull the box out.

6. Mason jars

Everyone has them, but nobody uses them! They make cute pencil holders or even can work together to organize your whole desk. You could use the shorter ones for things like paper clips, thumb tacks, or miscellaneous items. Or you can use your jars to keep small candy in for when you want a short study snack! You can even DIY your jars to match your room!

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
