Ways To Stay Motivated In College

It is that time of the year again. Yes, it is autumn and football season, but it is also time for midterms. The thrill of the beginning of the school year has worn off leaving you mentally and physically tired. While sitting in the library, you start to reminisce about summer and how the end of the semester seems like a lifetime away. While you're stressing about the semester, you may forget that you need to take care of yourself. It is important to keep the momentum going from the start to the end of the semester. Being successful in classes isn't just about your grades; it is about your mental health as well. For those of you that are in the mid-semester slump - here are some ways to help you stay motivated for the second half of the semester:

1. Organize

Being organized helps you stay on top of tasks and not miss deadlines. By writing in a planner or making a to-do list, you can plan for the short and long term. Organizing your life on paper will help you keep track of everything you need to do on a daily basis. There is nothing more satisfying than crossing off a finished task.

2. Be Active

Getting fresh air will help you focus and minimize stress. After spending hours in the library, it is time to take a study break by going to the gym, playing sports or even taking a walk around the block.

3. Socialize

Even though you may be swamped with homework and assignments, it is important to have fun too. Once in awhile it is nice to shift your focus from your homework to family and friends. Between classes go on a lunch date with your friends, watch a movie with your family or even have a study group.

4. Treat yourself

Aced an exam? Finished a project? Reward your hard work with treating yourself in different ways, whether that would be buying a pair of shoes, eating chocolate or going to an amusement park; you deserve it.

5. Set Goals

Do you have any goals for the semester or even for the year? Setting goals gives you something to look forward to. By setting both long and short-term goals it gives you something to strive for.

Good luck on your midterms and finish strong!

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
