Sexy Sophomores: Ways To Stay In Shape Sophomore Year And Beyond

Before freshman year, you assured yourself that you would stay in shape. Most people can agree with me that during freshman year, keeping that banging bod from high school turned from "give me 10 more pushups" to "give me 10 more dollars for pizza." Your hips grew and they cannot lie. Summer is coming to a close, and if you're anything like me, you've been kicking your butt in the gym and crunching on carrots and grapes to get back to your pre-college bod. Now that the hype of freshman year is over, you can keep the weight off as a sexy sophomore with these tips.

1. Join a club sports team...and actually attend practices.

Now that you've become a superstar at balancing homework, friends and parties, throw a club sport in the mix. Join the team and actually attend the practices this time.

2. Workout and show up late to a party.

As a freshman, you wanted to take your time putting together an ensemble to wear and strut into a party unfashionably early. As a seasoned sophomore, go to the gym before a party. Afterwards, take your time getting ready (or rush and throw on a random outfit), and show up fashionably late to the party. It's not like you were going to spend the hours before a party doing homework, so you might as well build up some muscle before collapsing your morale at the party.

3. Wear gym clothes to class...and actually go to the gym after.

Leaving your room to go to the gym is often the hardest step. If you're already out of your room and in workout clothes, why not venture to the gym in between classes? Worried about showing up to class sweaty? You're not a freshman anymore so everyone's already seen you at your best...and your worst.

4. Keep the healthy food in and the junk food out.

You're more likely to pass on the drunchies (drunk munchies) when your only options are apples and carrots.

5. Eat breakfast in your dorm.

By now, you're probably at least a little tired of D-hall. As a freshman, D-hall food is THE BEST THING EVER. Now that you're a sophisticated sophomore, you can pass on Dhall breakfasts, excluding Sunday brunch obviously. It's hard to stick to plain oatmeal when the option of bagels, hashbrowns and bacon loom in front of you. Keep some yogurt, granola bars or fruit in your dorm room and grab that before leaving for class.

6. Change your eating mindset.

This is easily the hardest part. It's not easy passing up the delicious pasta line. You've experienced the chicken tenders and quesadillas, and you've reaped the disadvantages. It shouldn't be as hard to dash past the dessert table this time around. With one of the best dining halls in the country, it's hard not to let yourself indulge. So let yourself indulge...only occasionally. Tell yourself that if you hit the gym 5 times that week, you can have dessert on Saturday.

7. Have a fitourage.

It's easier to work out when you have a buddy there to make sure you're lifting more weight than the amount of texts you've sent the past hour at the gym.

8. Bring homework to the gym.

I didn't discover this gem until finals week. Oftentimes, schoolwork beats out going to the gym. Don't let it. Save that 50+ pages of reading, and read while you're on an elliptical. It'll force you to focus on that reading without distraction and you'll kill two birds with one stone: doing your homework and working on that beach week bod.

If you want Scooby Snacks for breakfast in college, go for it. Nobody is there to stop you. Nobody is there to nag you to get your butt out of bed and go to the gym or tell you that binge watching fifteen episodes on Netflix is too much. You have the freedom to make those choices. As freshman, many of us made the choices of ice cream for breakfast, or skipping the gym to "study." As sophomores, we can make the choice to eat healthy and workout. Follow these tips to stay a sexy sophomore and keep all the right junk in all the right places.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
