Adventure is out there, and sometimes adventure includes lengthy road trips with a bunch of people. Hopefully, you like the company of the folks in the car with you because the mood in the vehicle is in direct correlation with how long the trip feels. I consider myself a professional road-tripper, having made the 12-hour trek from Chicago and SC countless times as well as haven gone on a month long road trip one summer with my sister and best friend. This experience had left me with an excess amount of knowledge about how to make the most out of lengthy trips in the car.
1. Sleep
Sleeping in a car is like time travel. You fall asleep in South Carolina and wake up almost to Virginia; it's actually one of the best ways to pass time in the car, plus it keeps you rested so you're not exhausted when you finally reach your destination.
2. Music
Good music makes a road trip. I personally use Spotify Premium because I don't need data to listen to my music on the road. Plus it's commercial free and I can jam out to all of my favorite tunes to help the hours roll by.
3. Games
If you're by yourself or even with a huge group, games are a great way to keep yourself sane in the car. License plate game, would you rather, have you ever, or for those in larger vehicles, Cards Against Humanity. Games are fun and you can find out a lot about the people you're with by playing some of these games.
4. Books
If you don't get car sick, books are an awesome way to pass time. Getting lost in that world while making your way down the interstate is actually very soothing and maybe, if the drive is long enough, you might just be able to finish that book you've been reading for months.
5. Snacks
Being hungry on the road makes everything terrible. You feel like you have been driving forever but it has only been a half hour or so. Keeping some of your favorite snacks close by will help keep the time moving and if you're driving, it can help keep you awake. Safety first, my friends.
6. Movies/TV/Podcasts/Audio Books
These forms of media are amazing at passing the time. Watch a movie and suddenly two hours has gone by, listen to your favorite podcast and suddenly you've laughed your way through an hour. Binge your new favorite TV show and who knows how long you've been sitting on the road, and if you're driving, listen to audio books to keep your mind alert and help make the time go by in an interesting fashion.
So there it is! My ideas to help your next long road trip pass by in what seems like no time. I hope you all have happy, safe journeys!
