With Spring Break approaching, many are heading to warm climates to soak up the sun. Yet those who do not have Spring Break plans may be thinking what they can do to make the most of their time off.
Here are ten things you can do to make the most of your Spring Break:
1. Catch up on sleep!
During the semester, sleep becomes a rare commodity, especially during midterms. Spring Break affords you time to sleep in, but don’t sleep in too late. You’ll miss out on the opportunity to do other things!
2. Spend time with your family.
Often times during the school year, you do not get to spend as much time with your family as you would like to. Go out to dinner with your parents, spend a day doing something fun with your siblings, visit your grandparents, and plan a day with your cousins, aunts, and uncles!
3. Get a jump start on your work.
Put aside a few hours in the beginning of your day to do some homework. Start that paper that is due or start reading the next chapter for your class. You will thank yourself later!
4. Plan day trips.
Although you might not be getting on a plane to go relax on a beach for a week, this doesn’t mean you can’t go anywhere. Plan a day or overnight trip to someplace you can drive to. This not only allows you to get out of the neighborhood, but also allows you to explore places you might not otherwise have the chance to visit.
5. Catch up with your friends from high school.
Hopefully, your friends have the same Spring Break as you do. This way you all can get together, catch up on each other’s lives, and plan fun things to do. Yet, if they don’t, plan a trip to visit them in college! This way you still get to see each other and they can show you around and introduce you to their friends.
6. Search for a job or an internship.
Although the summer may seem far off, applications for summer jobs and internships are starting to open. Use this extra time to fine-tune your resume and fill out applications. This way you can focus solely on these applications without worrying about school work and classes.
7. Explore your hometown.
Sure, you may have lived there for most of your life, but I guarantee there are things that you have never seen and places you have never visited. These things and places can provide valuable learning experiences and help you to better understand your roots.
8. Volunteer.
There are so many places in your community in need of volunteers. Look for opportunities to volunteer at community events, a soup kitchen, clothing drive, or for any other cause you find interesting. This may help you realize what you want to do in the future, ignite a passion within you, or help you decide how you want to spend your summer!
9. Exercise!
During the semester, it is difficult to get into the routine of going to the gym and exercising each day. Spring Break is the perfect time to get into an exercise routine that you can take with you back to school.
10. Don’t forget to relax.
Even though it may be tempting to try to do all of these things, Spring Break is supposed to leave you refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the semester. With that said, don’t feel guilty about spending a day relaxing and just watching TV. You earned it!
